The standard form of the surname, Van Nest, is used here, though some lines have used Van Neste or Van Ness. Joris and George are variations of the same name, George being newer.

James Graham, late of NY, merchant; John White, of Raritan River, in Somerset, NJ and Margaret Winder, relict and sole Exec. of the will of Samuel Winder, her late husband, dec’d, sell to Peter Van Nest, of Raritan River afsd., planter, for a competent sum of money [?], for one-fourth part of the below described 1,904 a tr. lying on the e. side of the afsd. Palmer tr.
WHEREAS, by Patent by the Proprietors of East NJ, dated 28 Feb 1683, sold unto James Graham, John White, Samuel Winder, and Capt. Cornelius Courson 1,904 a. of land in Middlesex Co. near a place called ackawackhaca on both sides of the sd. Raritan River, beg. in a meadow on the s. side of the sd. River adj. a long meadow on the n. side of the sd. River near that in the purchase of Capt. John Palmer and his associates, and suns by the side of a swamp and then numerous courses to a tree marked by Pcrophaos wigwam, and then numerous courses to sd. Palmer’s line, and then numerous courses.
AND, WHEREAS, Cornelius Courson and Mary, his wife, by deed, dated 6 Jun 1687, did sell unto sd. Van Nest his equal one-fourth part of the absd. land. AND, since then sd. Courson has bot. the Rights of Hendrick Courson to the other half of the absd. tr. of land.

In 1762, Peter WILLIAMSON and Francis OARSORT/COSSAART were identified as brothers-in-law and executors for the will of John GRANT [husband of Neeltje Cossart] of Bernardstown, Somerset Co.

Powel is thought to be the son of Hendrick & Maria De Mott. However, the gap between his probable birthdate and his next sibling is 10 to 15 years, so it seems doubtful. However, Christina, wife of Dirck De Mott, his presumed 1st cousin, was the witness for Annetje in 1739.
His will was written on 1766, May 19 at Bridgewater, Somerset Co., NJ. It mentions his son, George, daughters Anna, wife of Christian Feser, and Mary, and grandchildren, Mary and Powel Van Voorhees, of daughter, Mary. Proved June 17, 1782. Lib. M, p. 111.
